What is Vertigo?

Vertigo is a sensation of feeling off-balance. Causes of vertigo

Vertigo is a symptom of several different conditions. There are two types of vertigo, known as peripheral and central, depending on the cause.

There are two types of vertigo.

  • Peripheral vertigo: is due to the results of a problem with your inner ear, which controls balance.
  • The symptoms include loss of hearing in one ear, Ringing in one or both ear.

The most common causes include:

  • Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV): It can occur during specific head movements, while standing up or bending over, crossing the road, or turning in bed.
  • Head injury: Vertigo can sometimes develop after a head injury. If you have symptoms of dizziness or vertigo following a head injury, seek medical attention.
  • Labyrinthitis: is an inner ear infection that causes a structure deep inside your ear (the labyrinth) to become inflamed. The labyrinth is a maze of fluid-filled channels that control hearing and balance.
  • Vestibular neuronitis: also known as vestibular neuritis is an inner ear condition that causes inflammation of the nerve connecting the labyrinth to the brain. In some cases, the labyrinth itself can also be inflamed. The condition is usually caused by a viral infection.
  • Ménière’s disease: vertigo is sometimes caused by a rare condition that affects the inner ear, called, Ménière’s disease.

Central vertigo: is due to disease origination from the central nervous system it also includes harm of cranial nerve as well its charters with vertigo experience pain relief of motion of their surroundings.

The symptoms include. Imbalance [unable, to stand, still, or walk], Vomiting, and hearing loss.

The most common causes include:

  • Migraines: A severe headache that’s usually felt as a throbbing pain at the front or on the side of your head, which is common in younger people.

  • Brain Tumor: cerebellum located at the bottom of the brain.
  • Stroke: happens in your cerebellum or brainstem – the areas that control balance in the brain.

Taking certain types of medication without doctor’s prescription may occur as a side effect.

What is BPPV vertigo?  

Is one of the most common causes of vertigo — the sudden sensation that you’re spinning or that the inside of your head is spinning.  BPPV It is usually triggered by specific changes in your head’s position. This might occur when you tip your head up or down, when you lie down, or when you turn over or sit up in bed.

The signs and symptoms of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) may include:

  • Dizziness
  • A sense that you or your surroundings are spinning or moving (vertigo)
  • A loss of balance or unsteadiness
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo may go away on its own within a few weeks or months.
